Horseback riding and horse shows are very popular activities in the mountains. Many local horse stables provide not only traditional riding instruction and facilities but also can serve as outfitters for trail rides into the hills and mountains. This webpage also is the most comprehensive, up-to-date and complete listing for horseback riding stables in Western North Carolina.

Of interest to horse lovers is the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center in Asheville which regularly schedules championship horse shows and related events. Another major equestrian facility fairly close to Asheville and Hendersonville is the Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE), located in Tryon, which is about an hourís drive south. They have world-class equestrian facilities, steeplechase and cross-country courses and regularly host horse shows of all types and classes.
