

Granite Falls, North Carolina
Granite Falls NC, established in 1899, is located in southern Caldwell County just north of Hickory, on
Highway 321. Its history dates back before the Revolutionary War. Its
origins can be traced to land gran ts dating back to 1754. Granite Falls was
incorporated on May 1, 1899 and was named after the Falls on Gunpowder Creek,
where a solid formation of granite spans the creek.
Home to nationally recognized Bank of Granite, the Town of
Granite Falls' economy has been centered on manufacturing. Growth in tourism and
the retirement industry are also diversifying the
economic base. Granite Falls
is also home to one of the world's largest collection of soda pop memorabilia
housed in the
Antique Vending Company showroom.
Recreational opportunities for visitors near Granite Falls
include the nearby
Pisgah National Forest
and the town's
Lakeside Park on scenic Lake Rhodhiss. The
Granite Falls History &Transportation Museum
is also located in
Granite Falls and is housed in the historic home of Andrew
Baird, one of the town's original founders. 
Caldwell County, known as the Furniture
Capital of the South, is home to the "20
Miles of Furniture"
where numerous outlets and stores offer deep discounts. Located along or near a
stretch of U.S. Highway 321 between Lenoir and Hickory, the area,
which passes though Granite Falls, is a required destination for any
serious shopper looking for furniture
Rhodhiss is a small, quaint community near Granite Falls with a unique claim to
fame. The town is known for a sign that proudly proclaims that the flags planted
on the moon by the United States were woven in Rhodhiss. Located in both
Caldwell and Burke counties, Rhodhiss is situated alongside the Catawba River
just below Duke Energy's Rhodhiss Dam. Granite Falls also has a unique and
long-running cultural festival celebrating the making of
molasses-the Molasses Festival-every October.
